Rev. Dorothy Harris is the founder and pastor of the Unity Fellowship Church of Columbia, Maryland. She has participated in the leadership team of the Transgender Day of Remembrance and Pride Services held in our Sanctuary. She is a career educator, with over 30 years in higher education administration, including Dean-level roles in Academic Advising and Enrollment Management and faculty positions in English, American Studies, Women's Studies, Communication and Reading. She currently teaches Communication at Loyola University Maryland and English at area community colleges. Rev. Harris holds a BA in English, an MA in American Studies/Women’s Studies, and the JD from the University of Baltimore. She serves as a Day of Trial mediator for the District Court of Maryland.

Traditional (but non-traditional) Candlelight Service, with special music prepared by James Houston and our Chancel Choir; readings by the Ministerial Staff of Diana Davies and Pete Fontneau, and a message Rev. David Carl Olson. We'll sing "Stille Nacht/Silent Night" in the circle of light, and wish a blessing on each other with thanksgiving for the great gifts of life and interconnectedness.

The Buddha’s first proclamation of the dharma was said to be, “Wide opened is the door of the deathless to all who have ears to hear. Let them send forth faith to meet it.” Such faith is proclaimed before one acquires right thought and is affirmed before life experience shows right understanding. The sangha of our community may be enhanced by our own embrace of faith in one another—even before we experience the deeper understanding that comes with a life committed to our congregation.
