Rev. David Carl Olson December 24, 2012

At our annual Christmas Eve service we sing familiar songs, hear the old story of the birth of Jesus and think about the meaning of being a light that shines in the darkness.

This podcast includes Rev. Olson’s homily, “Rachel, Weeping for All Her Children,” and a few selections of Christmas music.

Christmas and the holiday season can be difficult times for many of us. This service of quiet reflection offers a space for those of us who are experiencing a challenging Christmas after the loss of a loved one, in a new phase of life, or while experiencing financial or other stressors. No one will tell you they expect you to be “merry.” We hope we can be real.

Enlightened beings may choose not to leave the cycle of reincarnation, but to stay in the present worlds to help others along. How do we help each other along on the path to enlightenment and freedom from suffering? Do you have to be a Buddhist to become a Bodhisattva?
